EXHIBITION APRIL 2011: Selected Paintings by Ruth Gonazales
RUTH GONZALES
"Memoria e Intencion" Exhibit at Alicia Armstrong Gallery to Feature Recent Paintings of Artist Ruth Gonzales
Beginning April 7, 2011, the most recent paintings of Palm Desert artist Ruth Gonzales will be spotlighted in an exhibition entitled “Memoria e Intencion” at Alicia Armstrong Gallery. An opening night reception for the artist is scheduled for Thursday, April 7, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Gonzales is an artist who is as passionate about classical music as her love of painting. In this exhibit, the artist presents her recent paintings inspired by music, combined with complex application of color and fluid paint strokes.
The artist highlights in her large-scale oil on canvases, spaces filled with light, texture and motion. With a combination of mineral pigments and, on occasion, marble powder and sand, Gonzales achieves vivid colors and uses them to emphasize the movement and repose of her ethereal spaces.
Her understanding of color and texture has motivated her to develop a formula for the making of her own pigments which she uses in her work. Gonzales' technique in the preparation and application of color has been compared to Rufino Tamayo's and are said to have the same intensity of color. Exhibition Runs from April 7 through May 3, 2011.
